How to make the chocolate-peppermint crunch push cakes
What you will need:
- Chocolate cake batter
- Small Candy Canes
- Jelly Roll Pan
- Cake Icing (Vanilla)
- Push up Pop containers
- Push Pop Container Stand
Directions:
Use one box of chocolate cake mix or your own home made chocolate cake recipe for the chocolate cake batter.
Preheat oven to 350 f. Lightly spray jelly roll pan with baking spray and pour cake batter in pan.
When using the jelly roll pan, your cake will bake just a bit quicker in most ovens, about 18 minutes. Remove cake from oven and let cool.
Once cake has completely cooled, take a push pop tube and cut out cake circles as shown:
The push pop container cylinders are perfect for cutting out the cake circles. Simply press down with the tube, give it just a little twist annd use the stick with the base attached to push the cake back into the pan until ready to use.
If you are preparing for future use, you can store the cake circles in an airtight freezer bag and place in freezer for up to 4 weeks.
Each cake circle cut out will fit snug into the push pop container.
Prepare your cake icing. We use the professional cake decorator cake icing.
While icing is mixing, prepare the the peppermint crunch topping by crushing up candy canes.
To crush your candy canes, place in zip lock bag and use a mallet or hammer to crush up in nice chunks.
Set aside crushed peppermint candy canes and start preparing the layers.
Place your empty push pop containers in the push pop container stand and place a chocolate cake circle in the bottom.
Next, pipe a layer of cake icing on top of the cake circle.
Sprinkle crushed candy canes on top of the cake icing and keep layering until the push pop container is filled.
You should be able to get three layers of cake and three layers of icing in the tube comfortably. 🙂
Garnish top layer with crushed candy canes and a candy topping for the center. We used red and green Sixletts.
These make a great presentation for your Christmas Parties and Winter wedding treats.
